Stephen Gionta Earns Hockey East Player of the Week

Boston College senior forward Stephen Gionta has earned Hockey East Player of the Week, according to an announcement made by the conference on Monday. Gionta tallied six points - four goals and two assists - in wins over Northeastern and Providence last week.
The Rochester, N.Y., resident recorded one goal and one assist in leading the Eagles to a 5-2 win over Northeastern in the first round of the Beanpot. He registered a career-high four points - including his first collegiate hat trick - in leading BC to an 8-3 win over Providence.
Gionta owns an eight-game point-scoring streak, during which he has tallied five goals and eight assists. The senior alternate captain has scored eight goals and recorded 15 assists this season.
Boston College is currently ranked fourth in both major national polls released on Feb. 13. The Eagles are back in action tonight against No. 5 Boston University in the Beanpot championship at the TD Banknorth Garden.
