College Park, Md. - After splitting road matches over the weekend, the Eagles concluded their three-game road swing with a 3-0 decision over the Terrapins of Maryland tonight. With the win, BC improves to 7-9 in ACC action, while Maryland falls to 4-12.
Game one was very close as each team battled to take the early advantage. Maryland jumped out to an early 7-1 lead but the Eagles rallied and were able tie the score at 12-12, after a kill by junior Abigail Hasebroock. The Terps would again pull ahead winning eight of the next 11 points to take a 20-15 advantage. However, BC would not give up. With Maryland leading 26-22, the Eagles would close out the game winning eight of the final 10 points to win an important game one, 30-28.
In the early stages of game two, the two teams would exchange leads and would be tied after the first 10 points. But it was the Eagles who would make the first run, a 14-6 spurt that would give them a 19-11 lead. The Terps would close to within five but that would be as close as they would get as BC would hold on for the 30-24 game two win.
Maryland would not go down fighting as game three was another battle. BC held an early 13-9 advantage and would increase their lead to 18-12 after a kill by Dorota Niemczewska, one of her 18 for the match. But, the Terrapins would rally tying the score at 21-21, after a kill by Jade Brown. But the Eagles had one more run in them as they closed the match out winning nine of the last 14 points for a 30-26 win.
The Eagles were led by senior Dorota Niemczewska who tallied a match-high 18 kills. Senior Allison Anderson led BC defensively with 17 digs. Junior Jade Brown registered a team-high 15 kills for Maryland.
BC is back in action on Friday, November 10 at 8:00 p.m. when they will take on Wake Forest University in Power gym.
