
Women's Basketball Falls to Vermont

Despite a double-double from senior Kathrin Ress (14 points, 14 rebounds), the Boston College women's basketball team fell to Vermont, 56-48, in the final of the University of Rhode Island Invitational at The Ryan Center in Kingston, Rhode Island.
Boston College is now 4-2, while Vermont improved to 4-1. Next up for the Eagles is Fairfield on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at Conte Forum (7 p.m.) in a non-conference game.
The Eagles ran into a determined Catamounts' team. Vermont shot ahead 16-7 just 10 minutes into the game. The Eagles scored a season-low 14 points in the half and shot 24 percent from the field. The Catamounts held a 24-14 lead.
In the second half, Boston College made a run behind freshman Elisabeth Egnell. The 6-foot-3 forward scored 13 of her 17 points in the half. She sparked a run which had the Eagles tied at 37-37 with Vermont at 11:19 to play. The Eagles took the lead on a jumper by Egnell at 10:11 to play. The two teams continued to trade baskets.
A foul shot by Kindyll Dorsey had BC within one point of the Catamounts, 47-46. Vermont freshman Courtnay Pilypaitis, who finished with 14 points, hit a long three-pointer at 2:03 to play giving the Catamounts a 50-46 lead. The Eagles then turned the ball over three straight times and Vermont pulled way.
The Eagles shot 37 percent from the field for the game and did not get to the foul line until 15:37 in the second half.
