Chestnut Hill, Mass. - In their final match of the season, the Eagles celebrated their seven seniors, by defeating the Wolfpack of North Carolina State, 3-0 today at Power gym. The win gives the Eagles 10 conference wins for the year, six more than all of last season. The Wolfpack remained winless in ACC action.
In game one, the two teams battled for control early and the Eagles held a slim, 12-10 margin in the early stages. A kill by senior Dorota Niemczewska would increase BC's lead to six, 17-11. The Wolfpack would rally though, winning six of the next eight points, cutting the deficit to two, 19-17. A block assist from Alison Shepp and Kelsey Johnson gave BC a 27-23 advantage and the Eagles would hold on for the 30-25 game one win.
In game two, BC got out to an early 10-5 advantage off of strong serving from freshman Taylor Williams. A kill by freshman Keri DeMar would pull NC State to within four, 20-16. But, six points off the serve of sophomore Brittany Pierpont, increased the Eagles lead to 27-16 and they would pull away for the 30-17 win.
In game three, the two teams see sawed back and forth exchanging leads but the Eagles held a slight 11-9 edge early on. The Eagles would rally though, winning seven of the next 11 points to take an 18-13 advantage. The Wolfpack would not quit though, as they would close to within three, 21-18, after a Jessica Williams kill. But, consecutive serves from senior Alison Shepp took away any momentum NC State had as the Eagles would close out the Pack, 30-26 and complete the sweep.
NC State was led by sophomore Jessica Williams who tallied 10 kills and 13 digs in a losing effort.
The Eagles were led by senior Dorota Niemczewska who closed out her BC career in style, registering a match-high 16 kills and also adding 15 digs.
The Eagles conclude their season with an overall record of 12-19 and 10-12 mark in the ACC.
