Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Coming off an upset win on the road, the Eagles looked to stay on the winning track but dropped a 3-0 decision to the Tar Heels of North Carolina today at Power gym. The loss drops the Eagles to 9-12 in ACC action while Carolina improves to the same 9-12.
BC dug themselves an early hole in game one as the Tar Heels took an early 12-5 lead after a kill by sophomore Lauren Prussing. Another kill by Prussing would extend Carolina's lead to nine, 18-9. The Eagles would rally, however, benefiting from strong serving and winning nine of the next 11 points to close within two, 20-18. This would be as close as BC would get though, as the Tar Heels did just enough to hold on for the 30-27 game one victory.
Game two also saw Carolina build an early lead as they quickly held an 11-5 edge. The Eagles would cut the deficit to 13-11 after a service ace by junior Kelsey Johnson. But, the Tar Heels would counterpunch with a 7-2 run of their own, taking a 20-13 lead off a kill by freshman Ingrid Hanson-Tuntland. BC would get as close as three, 27-24, but Carolina would again stave off a comeback, taking game two 30-26.
The same story held true in game three as the Eagles got down early and could not recover as the Tar Heels would gradually pull away for a 30-20 game three win and complete the sweep.
Freshman Ingrid Hanson-Tuntland led the offensive attack for Carolina as she registered 14 kills. Senior Dorota Niemczewska led BC offensively with her 14 kills while also adding seven digs.
The Eagles conclude their season Saturday, November 25 at 1:00 p.m. in Power gym where they will take on the Wolfpack of North Carolina State.
