Hockey Signs Four Players

Four standouts - forward Barry Almeida, forward Brian Gibbons, forward Ryan Hayes and defenseman Nick Petrecki - have signed national letters of intent to play hockey at Boston College, according to an announcement made by Boston College head coach Jerry York. All four players will enroll at BC in September 2007 and begin play during the 2007-08 season.
Almeida, a 5-foot-9-inch, 185-pound forward, recorded a team-high 65 points - 37 goals and 28 assists - in 42 games as a member of the New England (Conn.) Junior Falcons of the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL) in 2005-06. The Springfield, Mass., resident earned EJHL Player of the Year honors.
Gibbons, a 5-foot-7-inch, 155-pound forward from Braintree, Mass., has starred for Thayer Academy each of the last four years. Additionally, Gibbons was a member of the 2004 U.S. Under-17 Select Team that finished second at the Five Nations Tournament in Germany. He tied for second on the U.S. team in scoring with five points - one goal and four assists - in four games.
Hayes has played each of the last two seasons for the U.S. Under-18 Team of the National Team Development Program under the direction of former BC associate head coach Ron Rolston. Through 19 games this season, the 5-foot-9-inch, 170-pound forward has registered 19 points - nine goals and 10 assists. Last winter, Hayes, a Syracuse, N.Y., native, recorded 50 points - 31 goals and 19 assists - in 51 games.
Petrecki, a 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound defenseman from Clifton Park, N.Y., has played each of the last two seasons for the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL). Petrecki played in 53 games for the Lancers in 2005-06 and recorded three assists. Through the first 12 games of the 2006-07 season, he has tallied three points - one goal and two assists.
