Volleyball Stumbles Against Georgia Tech

Atlanta, Ga. - Coming off a tough home loss to the Duke Blue Devils, the Eagles hit the road looking to bounce back with a win, but were stung by the Yellow Jackets, 3-1 last night at O'Keefe Gymnasium. The loss drops the Eagles to 8-11 in conference play, while Georgia Tech won its eighth consecutive match, improving to 11-8 in ACC action.
Trailing 28-26 in game one, the Yellow Jackets tied the score at 28-28 on a kill by Talisa Kellogg. The two teams proceeded to exchange the next eight points with Georgia Tech taking a 33-32 lead on a ball handling error by the Eagles. BC was able to hang on for the win however, as the Yellow Jackets had a pair of attack errors before a service ace by senior Shardai Davis gave the Eagles a 35-33 win.
With the second game tied at 23-23, Georgia Tech would rally winning five straight points to take a 28-23 lead. A kill by Shardai Davis pulled BC to within four, but a kill by the Yellow Jackets' Callie Miller, gave Georgia Tech a 29-24 edge. A pair of attack errors by the Georgia Tech and a kill by junior Kelsey Johnson pulled the Eagles to within two at 29-27, but a kill by Lindsey Gray gave Georgia Tech the 30-27 win, tying the match at 1-1.
The Eagles would tie the third game at 14-14 on a service ace by Kelsey Johnson, her third of the match, but the Yellow Jackets would win 16 of the next 19 points, cruising to a 30-17 win to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Georgia Tech would jump out to a 16-9 lead in game four, after a kill by Ulrike Stegemann. BC would close to within 24-20, but that is as close as they would get as the Yellow Jackets held on to win their third consecutive game, 30-25.
Georgia Tech had strong performances from junior Lindsey Gray and sophomore Talisa Kellogg. Gray had a match-high 21 kills, while adding 13 digs. Kellogg posted 18 kills of her own.
The Eagles had four players who posted double-digits in kills and were led by junior Kelsey Johnson who posted a team-high 16. Senior Allison Anderson led the defensive attack with a match-high 23 digs.
The Eagles will look to get back on the winning track as they take on Clemson University, Saturday, November 18 at 6:00 p.m. in Clemson, S.C.
