
Women's Basketball Tops North Carolina Central, 87-44

Chesnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women's basketball team defeated the North Carolina Central Lady Eagles at Conte Forum, 87-44, on Friday night in a non-conference game. The Eagles improve to 3-0, while the Lady Eagles open their season at 0-1.
The Eagles were led by Sarah Marshall with eight assists, Kindyll Dorsey with 15 points and Kathrin Ress, who added 14 points. Cassie King scored 17 points, while Jori Nwachukwu had nine points and Jasmine Newkirk added eight points for North Carolina Central.
Boston College jumped out to a quick lead in the first half, as the Eagles opened the game with a 13-0 run after Sarah Marshall hit Kindyll Dorsey for a three-pointer from the corner at 15:30. North Carolina Central got on the board at 15:16 on a three-pointer by Jasmine Newkirk. Boston College would extend their lead to 30-11 after Mickel Picco hit two free throws with 8:45 remaining in the half.
Elisabeth Egnell's lay-up on a fast-break on a pass from Mickel Picco at 4:18 gave the Eagles their biggest lead of the half, 36-15. LaVonna Hailey's lay-in with 19 seconds remaining in the first made it a 40-24 game at the half.
At the half, Ress led all scorers with 12 points. The Eagles shot 57% from the floor, while holding the Lady Eagles to 41% shooting. In a half dominated by BC, 15 of their 17 field goals in the first half came off assists. Boston College also outrebounded North Carolina Central 19-10 in the first stanza.
The Eagles went on a 12-0 run in the second half, expanding their lead to 52-28 after Kaydia Kentish finished a conventional three-point play and Ress hit a jumper in the paint at 15:29. Boston College would jump to its biggest lead of the night, 87-44 after Mickel Picco made a three-point shot on a pass from Victoria Jones with 14 seconds left in the game.
Boston College will travel to Ohio State on Tuesday, Nov. 21 for a non-conference game at 7 p.m. against the Buckeyes.
Game Notes: Kaydia Kentish had a career-high with 14 points and freshman Mickel Picco also netted a career-high with 14 points...Boston College shot 57.9% from the three-point line...the Eagles shot 100% from the free-throw line (12-12) for the first time since Jan. 19, 2006 vs Miami (11-11)...the team had 26 assists on 34 field goals.
