CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior Jared Dudley totaled 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead 14th-ranked Boston College in a 77-63 loss to Vermont before 5,035 fans in Conte Forum.
The Eagles shot just 30.2 percent from the field in the contest, while the visiting Catamounts shot 49.2 percent. Vermont outrebounded BC, 48-39.
BC led 7-5 just more than four minutes into the game, before Vermont rallied. The Catamounts outscored the Eagles 32-13 to claim a 37-20 lead with 1:37 to play in the first half.
Paced by sophomore guard Mike Trimboli's 12 points and 57.7 percent shooting by the team, Vermont took a 41-27 lead into the intermission.
It appeared the Eagles were poised to make a run early in the second half. After Vermont extended its advantage to 17 points (45-28) just more than two minutes into the session, BC responded with an 11-3 run to cut its deficit to nine points (48-39). Freshman Shamari Spears scored four points and sophomore Tyrese Rice added a three-point field goal in the run.
BC then had three opportunities to further trim the Vermont margin, but none of those possessions - two missed shots and one turnover - yielded any points. The Catamounts then ran off eight straight points to regain a 17-point margin (56-39). Senior forward Chris Holm keyed that rally with five points, including a clutch three-point field goal with 13:01 to play.
BC never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Game Notes: Dudley's double-double was his second in as many games this season and the 16th of his 102-game collegiate career. Dudley grabbed a career-best 10 offensive rebounds ... Rice contributed 14 points, while Spears finished with 13 points ... BC shot just 27.3 (9-for-33) in the opening half and just 33.3 percent (10-for-30) in the second half.
