
Dirks Honored as ACC Offensive Player of the Year

Chestnut Hill, Mass.--Sophomore forward Bob Dirks (Malden, Netherlands) received the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) field hockey Offensive Player of the Year as announced by the conference on Wednesday. Dirks is the first Eagle since Boston College joined the ACC last year to receive a field hockey individual superlative.
Dirks leads the ACC in shots (87), shots per game (4.58), goals (19) and goals per game (1.00), and her goals per game is tied for 10th in the NCAA. Her team-leading 41 points and 2.21 points per game both rank third in the ACC. Dirks has also proved to be clutch this season; she has notched six game-winning goals.
Dirks was named to the All-ACC Field Hockey Team along with sophomore goalkeeper Julia Berkowitz of Amherst, Massachusetts. Berkowitz is one of two goalies on the All-ACC team this year, compiling a .748 save percentage and 1.69 goals against average, and leading the ACC in saves (98) and saves per game (5.16). The Eagle goalie earned six shutouts during the regular season.
