Fairfield, Conn. - The Boston College women's golf team captured the two-round Sacred Heart Invitational in Fairfield, Conn. The Eagles competed against nine other competing schools, and finished first with a score of 658. Cross-town rival, Boston University, placed second, shooting 688, while Sacred Heart (692), Hofstra (712), and Central Connecticut State (712), rounded out the top five. Fairfield, Hartford, Monmouth, and Fairleigh Dickinson placed sixth through ninth, respectively. Wagner College withdrew after the first round. The meet was hosted by Sacred Heart.
The Eagles were led by freshmen Sara Gogolak and Natalie Draganza, who tied for fifth place, shooting 164.
Junior Katie Napleton and freshman Meghan Martinek tied for seventh place with a score of 165. Napleton shot a tournament-best round 75. Junior Lara Smilnak tied for 21st, shooting a two-round score of 179., and finished with a score of 165.
Freshman Hannah Shin also competed in the tournament as an individual, and placed fourth overall. Shin shot 163 over the two rounds.
Boston College women's golf will next tee-off in March when they begin their spring schedule. The schedule will be posted on www.bceagles.com as soon as it becomes available.
