Chestnut Hill, Mass. - In front of an animated crowd, the Eagles looked to bounce back with a win, after splitting matches last weekend, but fell to a tough Florida State team 3-0 tonight at Power gym.
In game one, the Eagles started slowly and trailed early, 5-1. But, after a Taylor Williams kill, BC quickly tied the score at 10-10. A service ace by Brittany Pierpont would tie the score at 17-17 just more than halfway through. The Seminoles would rally though, winning 10 of the next 14 points to take a 27-21 lead and would close out the Eagles by a 30-21 game one score.
In game two, the Eagles got out to an early 4-1 lead but that would be erased quickly as FSU would win 11 of the next 14 points to take an 11-7 advantage. BC would cut the lead to 14-12 but the Seminoles would again rally winning four of the next five points forcing the Eagles to take a timeout. The Eagles would close to within two, 28-26, after a Kelsey Johnson kill. But, Florida State would hold on for a tough 30-28 win, after a kill by Jessica Skower.
In game three, the Seminoles started quickly and led 10-5 in the early going. FSU would continue to put on pressure as they increased their lead to nine, 16-7, after a Jessica Skower kill. BC could not get in sync as the Seminoles continued to roll and pulled away for a 30-15 victory to complete the three game sweep.
Florida State was led on offense by senior Jessica Skower who tallied 14 kills and added eight digs. Freshman Malorie Wessel was also impressive registering three service aces to go along with eight kills.
Senior Dorota Niemczewska played well for BC posting 10 kills as well as nine digs. Senior Allison Anderson registered a match-high 23 digs for the Eagles on the defensive end.
BC is back in action on Sunday, October 29 when they take on the University of Miami at 12:00 p.m. in Power gym.
