Volleyball Topples Virginia Tech

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Senior Allison Anderson tallied 27 digs and junior Kelsey Johnson posted 14 kills helping the Eagles capture a thrilling five game win against the Hokies of Virginia Tech today at Power gym.
In game one, both teams came out strong, exchanging leads multiple times in the early going. Halfway through the contest, the Eagles and Hokies were tied at 15-15 but Virginia Tech would win 10 out of the next 14 points increasing their lead to 25-19. After a service ace by Amanda Cloyd, Virginia Tech closed the Eagles out with a 30-21 game one win.
In game two, trailing 11-7, the Eagles would rattle off five consecutive points taking a 12-11 lead after an attacking error on the Hokies. After a Tori Thompson kill, BC increased their lead to six, 23-17. Virginia Tech would close to within one, 27-26 after a kill by Taylor Parrish, one of her 14 for the match. But the Eagles held on for the 30-26 game two win after another attacking error on the Hokies.
Using some momentum from game two, the Hokies got out to an early 11-5 lead in game three. Virginia Tech would increase their lead to 20-10 after a block assist from Allie Kupec and Sarah Munoz and never look back pulling away for the 30-21 win.
BC would bounce back in game four, hanging tight with the Hokies at 15-15. The Eagles would take eight out of the next 10 points giving them a 23-17 edge. Virginia Tech would get as close as four but BC would win a well played game four 30-25.
In a shortened game five, the Eagles and Hokies see sawed back and forth in the early going and were tied at 8-8 halfway through. Trailing 10-8, BC would win seven out of the next nine points to take a thrilling 15-12 win.
Virginia Tech was led on offense by sophomore outside hitter Sarah Munoz who posted 15 kills. Freshman Taylor Parrish also had a strong performance tallying 14 kills and nine digs.
Senior Dorota Niemczewska played very well for the Eagles registering 12 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore setter Brittany Pierpont also had a strong performance with a match high 56 assists.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 2-2 in the ACC while the Hokies fall to 4-2. BC is back in action on Tuesday when they take on the University of Maryland at 6:00 p.m. in Power gym.
