Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Senior co-captain Alison Quandt and freshman Becky Zavisza have been honored by the Hockey East for the second time this week. Quandt was named Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 2 and now has been named Hockey East's December Goaltender of the Month. Zavisza, who was named to the Jan. 2 honor roll for her effort against Clarkson, has been selected as the league's top rookie for the second month in a row, garnering Hockey East Rookie of the Month accolades for December.
Quandt went 2-2 in the month of December but only allowed three goals in her two losses, while receiving only one goal in support of her effort against No. 10 Clarkson University. Despite losing the first game, 1-0, and then dropping the second game, 2-1, in overtime Quandt stopped 41 of 44 shots faced over the two-game span against the Golden Knights. She also allowed fewer than two goals in three of her five appearances, including a perfect third-period relief against Providence College.
Zavisza opened up the month with a two-goal, two-assist performance against Hockey East opponent, Connecticut as the Eagles defeated the Huskies, 6-1. Zavisza also was one of two Eagles to score a goal against three-time defending Hockey East champion Providence. She continues to lead the Eagles in goals scored with 11 on the season and is second in points with 16.
The Eagles are off until next Monday when they travel to Northeastern on Jan. 9. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
