Boston College left wing Chris Collins earned Hockey East Player of the Month honors, according to an announcement made by the conference on Tuesday.
Collins recorded 12 points - six goals and six assists - in six games in December. The senior alternate captain tallied the first hat trick of his career in a 7-0 home win over Massachusetts on Dec. 9. He followed that performance by recording three assists in a 4-1 win at Massachusetts the following night.
Collins recently earned all-tournament team honors after he scored three goals and tallied one assist in two games at the Denver Cup. He scored one goal and connected on BC's first opportunity of the shootout to lead BC past Ferris State in the opening round. The Fairport, N.Y., resident then registered his fifth multiple-goal game of the season in the Eagles' 5-1 win over Princeton in the championship the following night.
Collins leads the league in goals scored (15) this season and has tallied a team-high 25 points.
BC, which is ranked No. 5 in the country according to USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and No. 6 according to USCHO.com/CSTV, hosts Northeastern on Friday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m.
