Jerry York Receives Contract Extension

Boston College head men's hockey coach Jerry York has received a contract extension that will keep him in his current position through the 2010-11 season, according to an announcement made by Boston College director of athletics Gene DeFilippo.
"We're very fortunate to have Jerry York here at BC and we're all very excited that he will continue to lead our hockey program," DeFilippo said. "Jerry is the best hockey coach in the country and the young people that play for Jerry become the very best student-athletes they can be."
York accepted the head coaching position at BC, his alma mater, in June 1994 with 22 years of head coaching experience. He served seven years (1972-79) at Clarkson and 15 years (1979-94) at Bowling Green. He is college hockey's third all-time winningest head coach (first among Division I active coaches) with 739 wins. Now in his 12th season as the Eagles' head coach, he owns a 272-148-40 record at BC.
A 1967 first-team All-American at BC, York has guided the Eagles to numerous accolades, including four Hockey East regular-season titles (2001, 2003, 2004, 2005), four Hockey East tournament titles (1998, 1999, 2001, 2005), five Frozen Four appearances (1998-2001, 2004) and one national championship (2001).
York is one of only two coaches in NCAA history to lead two different schools to national titles. He led Bowling Green to the 1984 NCAA title, and Boston College to the 2001 NCAA title.
York has been inducted into both the Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame (in 1982) and the Bowling Green State University Athletic Hall of Fame (in 2003).
