Matt Hasselbeck, who lettered for the Eagles from 1994-97 at quarterback, led the Seattle Seahawks to Super Bowl XL Sunday in a 34-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Championship game. He completed 20-for-28 passes for 219 yards and two scores in Sunday's game.
"We're not done yet," Hasselbeck said after the game. "We've got another game we've got to go win."
If the Seahawks do win the game, Hasselbeck will join an elite group of Eagles to wear Super Bowl championship rings. Most recently, former Eagle Dan Koppen was the starting center for the 2004 and 2005 New England Patriots Super Bowl championship teams.
Boston College has been represented by at least one former Eagle in 29 of the 40 Super Bowls and 25 of the last 31. At Super Bowl XXXVIII in Houston, Boston College tied with the most former players (five) on the rosters of the two Super Bowl teams, New England (Koppen, Mike Cloud and Damien Woody) and Carolina (Doug Brzezinski and Vinny Ciurciu).
Hasselbeck is sixth on BC's all-time passing yardage list (390 of 701 for 4,548 yards and 22 touchdowns). He was drafted 187th overall in the sixth round of the 1997 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers, where he played before joining the Seahawks in 2001. This season, he has completed 294 of 449 passes for 3,459 yards and 24 touchdowns.
