CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore goalie Cory Schneider recorded 33 saves and posted his third-consecutive shutout to lead second-ranked Boston College to a 3-0 Hockey East victory over fifth-ranked Vermont in front of 7,884 fans in Kelley Rink.
Junior Brian Boyle opened the scoring at 4:23 in the first period, beating Vermont goalie Jim Fallon over his right shoulder off a cross-ice feed from senior Peter Harrold.
Senior Chris Collins netted the Eagles' second and third goals. Collins doubled the BC margin at 16:07 in the second frame and extended the lead to 3-0 with a power-play tally 48 seconds into the final period. Collins and Boyle each recorded three points.
Collins registered his sixth multiple-goal game of the season and his league-best 19th and 20th goals of the season.
Schneider recorded his second shutout victory in as many nights, and extended his scoreless streak to 217:49, the second-longest span in school history. The BC netminder registered 55 saves in back-to-back contests against Vermont (15-7-2, 7-6-2 Hockey East). Schneider became the first BC goalie to record three consecutive shutouts since Scott Clemmensen accomplished the feat in January 1998.
Vermont's Corey Carlson had the best opportunity to snap Schneider's shutout streak with four minutes remaining in the final period. Skating in on a breakaway, Carlson had his shot deflected by Schneider to preserve the shutout for BC.
The first period featured 10 two-minute minors and two 10-minute misconduct penalties, all occurring with less than 2:41 remaining in the period.
Boston College (16-4-2, 14-2-1 HE) extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games.
Fallon made 26 stops for the Catamounts.
