CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (AP) - Cedric Simmons was 6-for-6 from the field and scored 17 points for North Carolina State on Tuesday night as the 18th-ranked Wolfpack beat No. 15 Boston College 78-60, leaving the Eagles winless in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Cameron Bennerman scored 14 points and Tony Bethel went 4-for-6 from 3-point range and had seven rebounds for N.C. State (13-2, 2-1). The Wolfpack, who lost to North Carolina on Saturday to snap a seven-game winning streak, play four ranked teams in a span of six games, including No. 1 Duke next Wednesday.
Jared Dudley had 16 points and nine rebounds, and Craig Smith scored 14 points for BC (11-4, 0-3) in its ACC home opener. But the two were 11-for-34 from the field and the Eagles shot just 33 percent to lose their second straight game and drop to 0-3 against ranked teams.
BC, which defected from the Big East during the summer, lost its first two conference games this year - both by two points.
But this one wasn't even close.
BC missed 16 of its first 19 shots and trailed 32-28 at halftime. N.C. State opened the second half with an 11-0 run as the Eagles missed their first eight shots. Simmons scored five points in the run and Bethel hit a 3-pointer.
Dudley made a free throw and then hit a 3 from the left corner to make it 45-34 and give BC a burst of energy. Sean Marshall hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key to make it 49-40 with 12:45 left.
But Bennerman answered with a dunk, then scored again driving to the basket to make it a 17-point game.
