
Assistant Coach Named to US Women's National Hockey Team

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Assistant women's hockey coach Katie King has been named one of 22 players to the 2005-06 United States Women's National Team, USA Hockey announced August 25, 2005. The squad will participate in The Hilton Family Skate to 2006 Tour in preparation for the XX Olympic Winter Games, to be held February 11-20, 2006, in Torino, Italy.
"We're just getting started on the tour," King said. "This is an exciting time for me and for women's hockey in general. This will be my third Olympics and I'm looking forward to the whole experience."
The team was selected following the 2005 USA Hockey National Women's Festival, held August 19-24 at the Lake Placid Olympic Center. The Festival featured 40 of the top women's players in the nation.
"We are excited with the talent assembled for our U.S. Women's National Team," National and Olympic Team Head Coach Ben Smith (Gloucester, Mass.) said. "The Festival featured a deep pool of players and really highlighted the tremendous development of women's hockey in the United States."
The final roster for the Olympic Winter Games will be comprised of 20 players. King was one of 18 of the 22 members of the 2005-06 U.S. Women's National Team that helped lead last year's squad to its first-ever gold medal at the 2005 International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship.
