
Women's Ice Hockey Picked Third In Preseason Poll

The Boston College women's ice hockey team was picked third in the Hockey East preseason coaches' poll, the league announced on Thursday. This marks the second year in a row that the women were selected third in the preseason poll.
The Eagles are coming off their most successful season since joining the Hockey East four years ago. BC finished the 2004-05 regular season with a conference mark of 6-11-3 and an overall record of 10-20-4. Head coach Tom Mutch, who was named Hockey East co-coach of the year, led BC to its first conference semifinal appearance. The Eagles finished the 2004-05 season fourth in the league standings.
The top returning forwards for the Eagles are Deborah Spillane, Sarah Feldman and Colleen Harris, who are all sophomores. This scoring trio accounted for 86 of BC's total 183 points on the season. Spillane, a Hockey East second-team selection and all-rookie team honoree, led the team with 36 total points - 19 goals and 17 assists. Spillane was also named Hockey East Rookie of the Week twice and Hockey was Rookie of the Month twice.
The Hockey East welcomes two new teams into the league this year bringing the conference to eight teams. The new additions are Vermont who was picked seventh and Boston University who was picked eight.
The Eagles open play against Quinnipiac on Oct. 14, 2005. The game will be played at Kelley Rink at 7 p.m.
