Volleyball Drops First ACC Match to Maryland

College Park, Md. - The Eagles lost their first-ever ACC match to a strong Maryland team who remains undefeated both overall and in league play (10-1, 1-0). BC (5-5, 0-1) started off strong by taking the first game of the match 32-30, but then lost in three straight games to the `Terps (30-11, 35-33, 30-21).
The Eagles were ahead of Maryland most of the first game until the `Terps came roaring back with the scored tied at 21 and took the next four points. From that point on the game went back and forth until with the game tied at 30 Maryland made a crucial attack error and then allowed Tori Thompson made the next kill to take the game.
The second game was dominated by Maryland and they would eventually take the game 30-11. In the third game the Eagles refused to give up without a fight and led the `Terps 26-23 until Maryland went on a 5-0 run. Both teams battled back and forth until Maryland took the game 35-33. In the last game of the match Maryland led the entire time and took the game easily from the Eagles, 30-21.
Sophomore co-captain Allison Anderson had a strong performance as she served up two aces and had 21 digs for the night. Senior setter Verena Rost was also as solid as ever with 33 assists, three served aces and chipped in eight digs for the Eagle's cause.
No Eagle reached double digits in kills but freshmen Tori Thompson led the team with eight kills while juniors Morgan Woodcock, Dorota Niemczewska and Lia Krautmanis all added six on the night. Junior Alison Shepp led the team in block assists with six while Thompson, Krautmanis and Rost all put up two a piece.
The Eagles open up home ACC play on Friday Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. against the University of Miami. BC will then continue ACC action on Saturday Sept. 24 against Florida State also at 7 p.m.
