
Women's Ice Hockey Welcomes New Assistant Coach

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Brooke Whitney, a two-time All-American at Northeastern, has been named assistant coach of the Boston College women's hockey team, Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo announced. Whitney joins head coach Tom Mutch as he enters his third season at Boston College.
For the past year, Whitney a Snohomish, Wash. native, has been a graduate assistant coach for the University of Connecticut's women's ice hockey team. Aside from helping with coaching practices and helping plan game strategies she was an important part of the recruiting process during her tenure in Storrs, Conn. She also has been a part-time skating and dry land instructor for students ranging in age from six years to adults for the past two years.
"It is an absolute pleasure to have Brooke at Boston College for the upcoming season," Mutch said. "The knowledge she can share with the players and her background will only help the program. I'm excited about the upcoming year and so are the kids. She will bring a lot to the game."
While skating for the Huskies from 1999-2002, Whitney received many accolades. A two-time All-America selection for Northeastern, Whitney earned the Patty Kazmaier Award her senior year which is presented to the National Player of the Year in women's ice hockey. That same year she was named ECAC Eastern Player of the Year for Division I women's ice hockey as well as being named the to New England Sports Writer's All-New England team. She was also recognized academically when she was awarded the Jeanne L. Rowlands Top-Scholar Athlete Award at Northeastern University.
In 2002-2003 Whitney was a recipient of the Everett Herald Woman of the Year in Sports Award and skated for the USA Women's National 4-Nation's Ice Hockey team. She was named to the ECAC All-Academic team in 1998-1999 and 2000-2002. Whitney was also a member of the Brampton Thunder women's professional ice hockey team in 2002-2003 season. Whitney who earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from Northeastern in 2003 is currently working on a master's degree in sports management from the University of Connecticut.
