Durham, N.H. - The Eagles beat host New Hampshire in the final match of the Ocean Bank Invitational 3-0 as they placed second in the tournament and finished 2-1 overall on the weekend.
After a tough loss to a strong FAU team, BC rebounded to beat the Wildcats in straight sets (30-23, 32-30, and 30-17). Making the All-Tournament team from BC was junior outside hitter Dorota Niemczewska and senior setter Verena Rost. This is Niemczewska's third time making an All-Tournament team this season and Rost's second.
Game one remained close in the beginning but after the score was tied at 11-11, BC went on a 5-0 run to make the score 16-11. Although the Wildcats won three consecutive points, a key time out called by BC allowed the Eagles to then go on a 7-1 run and wrap up the game 30-23.
Game two proved to be a back and forth battle between the two teams where both the Eagles and Wildcats had scoring spurts throughout the game. While the Eagles finally went on a 9-2 scoring run to make it 28-26, the Wildcats would answer back with three straight points to make it game point at 29-28. But the Wildcat's would not take the game as BC came roaring back to steal the game away 32-30.
In the third and final game of the match the Eagles took the lead early and never relinquished the lead. The Eagles beat the Wildcats 30-17 in the final game of the match.
Kelsey Johnson led the offensive attack again laying down 16 kills and leading the team in attack percentage for the third match in a row hitting .500. Niemczewska put down 12 kills on the night, tallied five digs and had three block assists. Co-captain Rost led the offense assisting her team 38 times while also digging the ball five times and adding four kills. Allison Anderson did her part by adding 16 digs and serving up three aces.
Overall the Eagles hit .225 on the night and had six total team blocks.
BC now stands at 5-4 overall and will open up ACC play on Sept. 20 against Maryland in College Park, Md.
