Blacksburg, Va. - The Boston College Men's Soccer team played to a hard fought 1-1 draw against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. It was the first-ever game for the Eagles in the ACC.
Boston College struck first when defender Jamen Amato fired a shot from 15 yards out that got past Virginia Tech keeper Chase Harrison at 28:57. It was Amato's first goal of the season and the third of his career.
Virginia Tech tied the score late when Kevin McFadden took a long pass from midfield and scored with just over 15 minutes left in the match.
The Eagles had two chances in overtime, but a Lennie McMillian header flew over the crossbar and Hadrien Toure's redirected cross was snared by Harrison.
The Eagle defense continued its strong play, led by freshman Paul Gerstenberger who made a number of key plays. Goalkeeper Issey Maholo made five saves on the day, including one in the extra frame.
It was the third consecutive overtime game for the Hokies who move to 1-2-2 on the season, while the Eagles are now 3-1-1 overall.
