Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women's soccer team continued their winning ways on Sunday, Aug. 28 against Holy Cross. Junior Heather Ferron scored the game winner at 19:45 off of a pass from sophomore Katie Coffey. Late in the second half freshman Kerri McNicholas scored her first collegiate goal, with co-captain Jenny Maurer getting her second assist of the season. The Eagles improve their record to 2-0-0, while the Crusaders drop to 0-2-0.
The first goal came mid-way through the first half when Coffey fed Ferron a perfect ball in front of the net. With a great first touch Ferron slotted it into the near right corner to put the Eagles on top. This was Ferron's first goal of the season and seventh career goal.
McNicholas got her first collegiate goal at 74:44, with Maurer getting her second assist of the season. Maurer brought the ball along the left sideline and then passed it to McNicholas who was waiting at the 18-yard box. She then blasted the ball into the far left corner to put the game out of reach.
The defense of senior co-captain Lindsey McArdle, junior Laura Georges, junior Mary Schneck and Coffey was once again rock solid, allowing only three shots and two on goal. Arianna Criscione collected two saves on the day for her second straight shutout.
BC put together a strong offensive attack, leading in all offensive statistics including shots, shots on goal and corner kicks. They out-shot Holy Cross 26-3 with 15 on goal and garnered eight corner kicks. Sophomore Kia McNeill put four shots on frame.
Next up for the Eagles is Friday, Sept. 2 when they continue their home stand against Sacred Heart at 7:00 p.m.
