Nate Doornekamp To Play with Team Canada

Former Boston College center Nate Doornekamp is a member of Canada's Senior Men's National Team that will compete in the 2005 FIBA Americas World Championship Qualifying Tournament in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, according to an announcement made by Canada Basketball.
The tournament, which begins on August 24 and runs through September 4, has 10 teams in the "Americas zone" competing for four spots in the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Tokyo, Japan. Argentina has already qualified for the World Championship after winning the gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games. Argentina will compete in the qualifier, but will not occupy one of the four qualification spots.
Canada opens play in the tournament on Thursday, August 25, against Venezuela (4 p.m.). Canada will play Team USA on Friday, August 26.
Among those joining Doornekamp on Team Canada are Connecticut senior forward Denham Brown and Pittsburgh junior forward Levon Kendall. Former Syracuse star Leo Rautins is the team's head coach.
