Team USA To Play For Gold Medal

Boston College Head Coach Cathy Inglese and the rest of the United States World University Games team stands at a perfect 6-0 in Izmir, Turkey. The team won all four of its preliminary round games, as well as the quarterfinal and semifinal games of medal play. With its perfect record, Team USA will face Serbia & Montenegro for the gold medal. The game will be played Friday, August 19 at 5:15 p.m. local time. Team USA is looking for its first gold medal since 2001. During that year, Team USA went 7-1 en route to the gold medal podium.
GAME FIVE - Quarterfinal
Taiwan, 109-57 win.
Team USA outrebounded Taiwan, 58-16, en route to victory. Five players scored in double digit points with Temple's Candice Dupree leading the team at 16 points. Duke's Monique Currie and LSU's Sylvia Fowles both collected 14 points while Cappie Pondexter (Rutgers) and Seimone Augustus (LSU) chipped in with 12 and 10, respectively. Michigan State's Liz Shimek was the tam's leading rebounder with a dozen.
GAME SIX - Semifinal
Russia, 118-67 win.
Team USA played its way into Friday's gold medal game with a dominating 118-67 semifinal victory over Russia. LSU teammates Sylvia Fowles and Seimone Augustus scored 25 and 18 points, respectively, to lead the way. Guaranteed at least a silver medal, Team USA will go for gold Friday at 5:15 p.m. local time, against Serbia & Montenegro
