Chestnut Hill, Mass. - In its first season in the ACC, the women's volleyball team has been picked 11th in the ACC preseason poll. The poll reflects the votes of 12 league coaches and was announced by the league office.
The Eagles, who reached the 20-win mark for the first time in the program's history last year, finished with an overall record of 20-12. They finished fourth in the BIG EAST with a conference record of 6-4.
The young team is returning five starters and 12 letterwinners from last year's successful squad, including junior co-captain Allison Anderson, who was named BIG EAST Libero of the Year. Anderson set the NCAA record for most digs (57) in a match last season.
Also gaining All-BIG EAST honors was senior setter and co-captain Verena Rost. Rost ranks first on the school's all-time list for assists (1286) in a single season, which she set in 2004.
Head coach Andrea Leonard looks forward to the challenge of entering a new conference and playing a new set of opponents.
"Every program has a lot to bring but we're going to play BC volleyball," said Leonard.
The Eagles open play against defending National Champion Stanford September 1, at 7 p.m. in Conte Forum. ACC action begins September 20, against Maryland at College Park.
