Senior defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka was named ACC Preseason Player of the Year by the league's media Monday in voting conducted at the annual Football Kickoff in Hot Springs, Va.
The honor was the latest for the 6-7, 261-pound Indianapolis native who has also been named a preseason first-team All-America selection by Athlon Sports, Blue Ribbon, Street and Smith's and The Sporting News, among others. The 2004 Big East Defensive Player of the Year was joined by wide receiver/cornerback/kick returner Will Blackmon and Head Coach Tom O'Brien at the ACC event, which was attended by more than 200 members of the news media covering ACC football.
In separate voting, the media predicted BC would finish second in the league's Atlantic Division behind perennial powerhouse Florida State. N.C. State was predicted to finish third, followed by Clemson, Maryland and Wake Forest.
The media predicted Virginia Tech, last year's ACC champion, would finish first in the ACC's Coastal Division, followed by Miami, Virginia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Duke. The winners of each division will meet in the inaugural ACC Championship game on December 3 in Jacksonville, Fla.
