Cathy Inglese Adds New Assistant Coach

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Erik Johnson will join the Boston College women's basketball staff as an assistant coach, according to an announcement made by Boston College head women's basketball coach Cathy Inglese. Johnson replaces long-time assistant Bill Gould.
"We are extremely excited about hiring Erik," says Inglese. "He has great experience, both on the east coast and west coast. His has a high level of overall enthusiasm and energy for coaching."
Johnson comes to Boston College with 11 years of Division I women's basketball coaching experience. He joins Inglese's staff after having served seven seasons as a member of the coaching staff at University of San Diego, first as an assistant (1998-2002) and then as associate head coach (2002-05).
While with the Toreros, Johnson specialized in player development with a focus on post players. He was also responsible for coordinating all aspects of recruiting, scouting opponents, and fundraising. During his time, San Diego won the 2000 West Coast Conference and appeared in the subsequent NCAA Tournament.
Prior to his post in San Diego, Johnson was a volunteer assistant (1994-95) and assistant (1995-98) at the University of Rhode Island. While there, the Rams were 1996 Atlantic 10 East Division Champions and appeared in that year's NCAA Tournament. He has also had extensive experience coordinating several camps and clinics. He has presented as a roundtable clinician for the WBCA and has served on the WBCA/Russell Athletic Coach of the Year selection committee.
Johnson graduated from University of California-San Diego in 1994 with a degree in psychology and a minor in teaching. He helped the Tritons to three NCAA bids and a Division III Sweet Sixteen. He received a master's degree in adult education with an area of specialization in physical education from University of Rhode Island in 1997.
Johnson will be joined on the east coast by his wife, Laura, and their two children Daly (3) and Avery (1).
