Women's Ice Hockey Announces The Class Of 2009

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College women's ice hockey head coach Tom Mutch has announced the addition of eight newcomers to the 2005-06 squad. Four forwards, three defensemen and a goaltender will join the Eagles next season.
Forwards
Meghan Fardelmann, Shannon Webster, Lauren Wiedmeier and Becky Zavisza will be strong additions to the Eagles on offense.
Fardelmann is the second member of the team to hail from The Culver Academies in Culver, Ind. She joins former teammate Krystal Strassman at the Heights. Fardelmann played four seasons of varsity hockey at Culver Girl's Academy and also competed with the Under-19 Wisconsin Wild team.
Webster comes to BC from Littleton, Colo., where she played for Colorado Select U19AAA. In the 2003-04 season, she was voted assistant captain and notched 28 goals and added 27 assists in 51 games.
Wiedmeier joins the Eagles from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She played on the boy's hockey team at St. Thomas Aquinas High School and also competed with the Under-19 Team Illinois squad.
Zavisza rounds out the incoming forwards for the Eagles. She is from Suffield, Conn. and played varsity hockey at the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Mass. Zavisza also competed at the U.S. National Festival Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Defense
Brie Baskin, Stephanie Olchowski and Maggie Taverna are expected to make an immediate impact on defense.
Baskin will join the Eagles from Wasilla, Alaska where she has played for Team Alaska. In 2004 she participated in the U.S National Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Olchowski is the only member of the class of 2009 from the Bay State. She played four seasons of varsity hockey at Deerfield Academy. Olchowski also skated with the Under-19 Chelmsford Lions.
Taverna hails from Howell, N.J. where she played three years of varsity boy's hockey for the Griffins. As a defenseman on the Princeton Tiger Lilies, she tallied 24 points in the 2003-04 season. In 2004, she participated in the Girls Under-19 USA Hockey National Championships.
Goaltender
Johanna Ellison is an experienced goaltender who will add depth to the position for the Eagles.
Ellison will join the Eagles from Cloquet, Minn. She has been the starting goalie for Cloquet High School's girl's hockey team since seventh grade. As a senior she posted a 1.28 goals against average and .953 save percentage. Ellison was named Let's Play Hockey Senior Goalie of the Year and AP Player of the Year (Minn.) in 2005.
