Lacrosse Falls To Connecticut, 12-8

Storrs, Conn. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team fell to the University of Connecticut, 12-8, in Big East play tonight at the Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn. Senior Carley St. Lucia scored a team-high three goals as the Eagles dropped to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in conference action.
In the first half, Connecticut (7-3, 2-1) out-shot BC 19-17. The Huskies got on the board first with a free position goal 55 seconds into the game.
After 10 minutes of scoreless play, the Eagles evened the score at one. St. Lucia notched her first goal of the game at 10:17. Less than two minutes later, Susie Breaznell connected off a pass from Lizette Blohm.
Connecticut scored two unanswered goals, taking a 3-2 advantage at 19:37.
Elizabeth Kadison tied the game at three at 23:48. Courtney Legath assisted on the tally.
The Huskies responded with a goal at 29:04, before the Eagles scored two goals in the final 11 seconds of the half. At 29:48 St. Lucia scored off a pass from Kadison. On the ensuing draw, St. Lucia picked up the ball, ran it down field and found the back of the net to give BC a 5-4 edge heading into the break.
Goalie Courtney Zwirko made her first career start and stopped seven shots on goal in the first half for the Eagles, while Jennifer Wong made four saves for the Huskies.
The Huskies opened the second half with four straight goals. Breaznell ended Connecticut's run with her second goal of the game off a pass from Jackie Yovankin at 36:58.
Connecticut responded to Yovankin's score with four unanswered goals over 13 minutes.
The Eagles tallied two goals in the final two minutes of regulation, but it was not enough to defeat the Huskies. Legath and Blohm scored within 23 seconds of each other to give BC eight goals on the night.
St. Lucia led BC on the loose balls with four groundballs. Brennan Joyce and Jackie Yovankin dominated off the draw controls by winning three each.
Zwirko finished the game with nine saves for BC and Wong stopped 10 shots for Connecticut.
BC will host No. 4 Georgetown on Saturday, April 9 at the Newton Campus Lacrosse Complex. The Big East matchup will start at 1 p.m.
