Hockey's Havern Earns New England's Unsung Hero

Senior forward Ned Havern earned the 2005 Joe Tomasello Award, presented to New England's Unsung Hero, according to an announcement made by the New England Hockey Writers Association. Havern received his award at the association's annual banquet on April 13.
In addition, three BC players - senior defenseman Andrew Alberts, junior forward Patrick Eaves and senior forward Ryan Shannon - gained All-New England honors. The All-New England Team was composed of six forwards, four defensemen and two goaltenders.
Havern recorded 22 points this season, doubling the point total from his junior season. The Arlington, Mass., resident tallied 10 goals, including nine power-play tallies. He finished his collegiate career with 57 points in 151 games.
Alberts, who earned All-America first-team honors for the second consecutive year, registered 16 points in 30 games this season. The All-Hockey East first-team honoree scored four goals, including the overtime gamewinner against Maine in the Hockey East Tournament's semifinal round. He is now playing with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.
Eaves, the 2004-05 Hockey East Player of the Year who also gained All-America first-team honors, scored a team-high 48 points this season. He led the team with a plus-25 rating, while tying for the team lead with 19 goals.
Shannon earned All-Conference first-team honors and All-America second-team accolades this season, recorded 45 points in 38 games. He finished second in scoring among Hockey East leaders, totaling 30 points in 22 league games. Shannon, who is now playing with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the American Hockey League, completed his collegiate career with 150 points in 154 games.

Brian Gionta, a three-time All-America honoree who played at BC from 1997-2001, is a member of the U.S. National Team that will compete in the 2005 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship from April 30-May 15 in Innsbruck and Vienna, Austria.

Freshman forward Dan Bertram and incoming freshman Benn Ferreiro (who signed a letter of intent during the early-signing period in November) are playing in the 2005 International Ice Hockey Federation U-18 Championship from April 14-24 in the Czech Republic. Ferreiro, a forward from Essex, Mass., is a member of Team USA, while Bertram will be representing Team Canada.
