Boston College head coach Al Skinner gained Big East Coach of the Year honors and sophomore forward Jared Dudley earned the league's Co-Most Improved Player award. The awards were announced in New York City's Grand Hyatt Hotel, just prior to the conference's annual pre-tournament banquet.
Skinner, who also earned the league's top coaching honor after the 2000-01 season, has guided the Eagles to a 24-3 record, including a 13-3 league mark. Currently ranked seventh in the nation, BC shared the Big East regular-season title with Connecticut. The Eagles were picked fifth in the league's preseason coaches' poll.
Dudley shared the Most Improved Player honor with Connecticut sophomore Marcus Williams. Also an All-Conference first-team selection, Dudley averaged 17.9 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in 16 league contests this season. He ranked among league leaders in seven categories: scoring, rebounding, field-goal percentage, steals, free-throw percentage, assists and assist-turnover ratio.
Boston College opens Big East Tournament play on Thursday, March 10 at noon. The Eagles will play the winner of the West Virginia-Providence first-round game, which will be played on Wednesday.
