
Women's Ice Hockey Falls To No. 8 New Hampshire

Durham, N.H. - The Boston College women's ice hockey team fell to No. 8 New Hampshire, 10-2, today at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. Despite the loss the Eagles have secured the fourth spot in the Hockey East playoffs with 15 points. Maine dropped its game to Connecticut yesterday to guarantee BC a position in the postseason.
New Hampshire (20-7-6, 12-3-4) out-shot BC 15-2 in the opening period. The Wildcats got on the board first at 9:04 when Lindsey Hansen connected to give UNH a 1-0 advantage.
In the first, the Eagles killed both of the Wildcat's power plays. BC (10-18-4, 6-10-3) was unable to capitalize on its one power-play chance at the beginning of the frame.
BC goalie Alison Quandt stopped 14 shots in the first.
The Eagles headed into the first intermission trailing 1-0.
UNH extended its lead at 1:27 into the middle stanza. Leah Craig scored off a pass from Hansen and Jackie Wedster to put the Wildcats up 2-0. The Wildcats added two power-play goals at the end of the frame to give them a four-goal lead heading into the third period.
BC's best scoring opportunity of the second came on its two power plays in the final four minutes of the period. Jessica Wilson fired a shot with the man advantage but missed just wide.
The Eagles were out-shot 9-3 in the second period. After two periods of play, Quandt made 20 saves for BC.
In the third period, Christine Moynihan and Lisa Davis saw action between the pipes for the Eagles. The Wildcats netted four goals in the first five minutes of the third.
BC got on the board at 6:53 when Deborah Spillane notched her 19th goal of the season. Rachel Wedig dished out the pass to Spillane for her fourth assist of the year.
With less than five minutes remaining in the period, Michelle Lombardi tallied a power-play goal for her fifth score of the season. Sarah Carlson and Krystal Strassman assisted on the goal.
The Eagles finished the day 1-for-6 with a man advantage, while the Wildcats were 3-for-5 on their power-play opportunities.
UNH added two goals late in the stanza to make the score 10-2.
Quandt stopped 20 shots and Moynihan and Davis combined for five saves in the third for BC, while Melissa Bourdon made nine saves for UNH
Tomorrow the Eagles will close out the home-and-home series with the Wildcats at Kelley Rink. BC will honor its five seniors before the final home game of the season. The game starts at 2 p.m.
