Wakefield, Mass. - Boston College freshman center Deborah Spillane was named Hockey East ITECH Rookie of the Month in an announcement made by the conference office on Wednesday. It's the second time this season Spillane has earned the honor. In February Spillane tallied seven points on six goals and one assist.
This past weekend in a two-game series against Maine, Spillane netted three goals. On Saturday, in a 2-1 victory, the rookie scored both goals, including a short-handed gamewinner for the Eagles. In Sunday's 5-2 win, Spillane also added a score for her 18th goal of the season.
On February 12 in a 4-4 tie with Northeastern, Spillane notched two goals for the Eagles.
Spillane leads the team and all rookies in Hockey East with 33 points on 18 goals and 15 assists. She has also netted a league-leading 12 power-play goals this season.
This is the fourth time this season that a BC rookie has received Rookie of the Month honors. Spillane also earned the award for November, while Sarah Feldman took home the award in December and January.
BC (10-17-4, 6-9-3) will play a home-and-home series against New Hampshire this weekend in Hockey East action. The first game will be played on Saturday at the Whittemore Center. The puck drops at 2 p.m.
