Ryne Reynoso picked a perfect time for the first home run of his career. The sophomore pinch hit for second baseman Ryan Hutchinson in the top of the 11th inning with the score tied at five, and hit a two-run blast to give the Eagles a 7-5 lead over Florida Atlantic on Thursday afternoon. BC proceeded to win its fifth consecutive game in a 7-6 victory.
Classmate Kevin Boggan, who registered his first save of the season in BC's 7-4 victory over La Salle on Thursday morning, blew the save opportunity this time around, surrendering two runs in the bottom of the ninth to let FAU tie the game and send it into extra innings.
Boggan stayed in the game and worked a perfect 10th inning before Reynoso gave the Eagles (5-4) the lead in the 11th. Boggan allowed an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning, but was able to get Mike McKenna to bounce into a game-ending double play. The victory is Boggan's first of the season.
With the score knotted at one in the top of the sixth inning, the BC bats came alive to score three runs. After Drew Locke reached on an error and Jason Delaney was hit by a pitch, sophomore third baseman Jared Mcguire hit a three-run home run to left field to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead.
McGuire, last week's Big East Player of the Week, also homered against La Salle earlier in the day, and now has three homers on the season. He leads the team with a .471 batting average, 12 RBI and six extra-base hits.
Shortstop Marco Albano led off the top of the 11th with a single and later scored on Reynoso's home run. Albano's base hit extends his hitting streak to nine games. The senior sports a .412 batting average.
Nate Jeanes started the game on the mound for the Eagles and lasted 5.1 innings, scattering four hits and striking out seven. Ted Ratliff threw 2.2 innings in relief of Jeanes and allowed one earned run.'
Boston College has scored 50 runs in its past five games.
