Weekend Preview: Eagles Host Maine This Weekend

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women's ice hockey team will play a two-game series against Hockey East opponent Maine this weekend. The Eagles and Black Bears are currently fighting for the fourth and final playoff spot in the conference. Maine (14-11-3, 5-9-2) has a one point edge over BC with 12 points.
Last Time Out
BC (8-17-4, 4-9-3) is coming off a weekend split with Providence College. On Saturday the Eagles defeated the Friars 4-1 at Schneider Arena. It was the first time BC had beat Providence since March 3, 2002. Michelle Lombardi, Sarah Courtney, and Cristin Stuart all tallied goals within a span of 53 seconds. Deborah Spillane netted the final goal of the game to seal the victory for the Eagles. Goalie Alison Quandt stopped 42 of 43 shots she faced.
On Sunday, the Eagles fell to the Friars 4-2 at Kelley Rink. Lee-J Mirasolo scored her second career goal and Kerri Sanders tallied her sixth of the year. Jill McInnis, Stuart, and Colleen Harris tallied assists for BC.
Against Maine This Season
The two teams met for a two-game series in Maine on November 13 and 14. On Saturday, BC edged Maine 3-2. After trailing 2-0, the Eagles fought back to beat the Black Bears. Sarah Feldman scored the gamewinner with less than four minutes remaining in the third period. Harris recorded a multiple-point game with a goal and an assist.
In Sunday's contest, the two teams skated to a 2-2 tie. Harris and Spillane each tallied a goal and an assist in the tie. In goal, Lisa Davis made 34 saves for the Eagles.
Notes
Sanders has tallied at least one point in five of the last six games. She has six goals and 15 assists for 21 points on the season. Stuart and Harris have each tallied a point in each of the last two games. The Eagles power play currently ranks sixth in the country. BC has converted on 33-of-163 chances for a .202 percentage. Spillane leads all rookies in the league with 30 points on 15 goals and 15 assists. The freshman is also tied for seventh in the nation with 11 power-play goals.
This Weekend
BC will host Maine on Saturday at Northeastern's Matthews Arena. The puck drops at 4 p.m. On Sunday, the Eagles will return to Kelley Rink for a 1 p.m. start against the Black Bears.
