A late third-period goal by New Hampshire senior forward Sean Collins helped the Wildcats overcome a two-goal deficit in the third period and tie fifth-ranked Boston College, 3-3, before 6,210 fans in Kelley Rink.
After a scoreless first period, Boston College (19-6-6, 12-3-6 Hockey East) recorded the game's first two goals. Senior Dave Spina scored on a power play at 5:49 in the middle frame. He took a pass from Shannon at the point and buried a slapshot top-shelf on New Hampshire goalie Kevin Regan. Patrick Eaves was also credited with a helper on the goal.
Sophomore Pat Gannon registered BC's second goal at 15:33. He found himself at the receiving end of a turnover in front of the UNH net. After picking up his own rebound, he found the net for his second goal of the season.
New Hampshire junior Brian Yandle's power-play goal at 17:04 cut BC's lead to one.
Boston College senior Ned Havern gave the Eagles a 3-1 advantage at 7:30 in the third period with a power-play goal. Shannon set up freshman Brian O'Hanley at the point and O'Hanley ripped a shot at Regan. The goalie made the stop, but Havern waited at far post and banged home the rebound.
Seventh-ranked New Hampshire (22-7-4, 15-3-3 HE) closed the gap to 3-2 after sophomore Daniel Winnik tallied a power-play goal at 11:15.
Boston College outshot New Hampshire 37-27. The Eagles finished 2-for-8 on the power play while the Wildcats converted 2-of-7 power-play opportunities.
Regan registered 34 saves, and Boston College senior goalie Matti Kaltiainen made 24 stops.
With the tie, Boston College clinched home ice for the Hockey East Quarterfinals.
