Softball Splits On Second Day of FAU/Worth Invitational

Boca Raton, Fla. - The Boston College softball team split a pair of contests on the second day of the FAU/Fort Worth Invitational at FAU Field on the campus of Florida Atlantic University. The Eagles opened the day with a 2-0 loss to Northwestern before posting their first win of the season with a 4-1 victory over Bethune-Cookman. BC stands at 1-3 on the season. Northwestern is 5-3 and Bethune-Cookman is 6-3.
In the first game of the day, Boston College allowed two runs on six hits. The Eagles were shut out, touching up the Northwestern pitchers for just one hit off the bat of Jenna Macchi (Milford, Mass.). Britney Thompson (Bountiful, Utah) took the loss on the mound, falling to 0-2 on the season.
In game two, Boston College rallied for its first win of the season. Despite being outhit 10-4, the Eagles scored four runs on their four hits. They found themselves down 1-0 after the first inning, but rallied for a four-run fourth to take the victory. In the inning, an error, a fielder's choice, and a walk loaded the bases for Thompson, who delivered a grand slam home run to left center.
Michelle Daly (Concord, Mass.) pitched the win for BC. She went seven innings and struck out four while walking none.
Boston College will face Florida Atlantic at 9:00 am Sunday. If the Eagles win, they will face Northwestern at 11:00 am.
