Three high school rowers - Rosanne Burns, Harriet Kadar and Abbe Turner - have signed national letters of intent to row for Boston College, according to an announcement by Boston College head coach Steve Fiske. All three rowers will enroll at BC in September 2006 and begin competing in the fall of 2006.
Burns hails from Reston, Va., and has rowed for Langley High School and the North Virginia Rowing Club during the school year. Burns, a National Society Officer, played volleyball and softball as a freshman and sophomore. During the summer, she rows for the Thompson Boat Club.
"Rosanne has made huge contributions to her successful high school team," Fiske said. "Her humble attitude and individual accomplishments have inspired her teammates. We are very pleased to have Rosanne competing at BC in the coming four years."
Kadar, a native of Cranbury, N.J., has rowed for the Mercer Junior Rowing Club in addition to competing in winter track and field and field hockey.
"Harriet is a very spirited individual whose dedication to the sport has been praised by her high school coaches," Fiske said. "She is motivated by her own eagerness to accomplish goals and does so with determination. We are excited to see Harriet continue to succeed during her time at BC."
Turner has rowed for East Lyme High School during the school year and for Thames River Sculls during the summer. Turner, who resides in Niantic, Conn., comes to the Heights as a member of the National Honor Society.
"Abbe has a wonderful attitude and serious work ethic," Fiske said. "Her previous experience and overall strength will have a positive impact on the BC team. We are really looking forward to working with her and helping her to further tap into the potential she has shown thus far in her impressive rowing career."
