CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Boston College women's basketball team improved to 9-2 on the season after defeating Boston University, 66-49 Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum. The Eagles and Terriers had not met on the hardwood in women's basketball since 1992, but behind Brooke Queenan's (West Chester, Pa.) fourth double-double (15 rebounds, 17 points) of the year, the Eagles posted their third consecutive victory over the Terriers and 16th straight win over a Massachusetts opponent.
Kathrin Ress (Salorno, Italy) got the Eagles started, going on a 7-0 tear, where she recorded all of the Eagles points in the first two minutes of the game. Boston College held the Terriers scoreless until Erica Kovach made a lay-up 6:02 into the game.
The Eagles would extend their lead to 17 points at the 5:11 mark after going on an 11-0 run. During that run, Aja Parham (San Antonio, Texas) scored seven of her season-high 15 points. Going into halftime the Eagles held a 36-22 lead.
Ress started the Eagles off again in the second half, making a lay-up at 19:33. For the next 10 minutes the Eagles and Terriers went back and forth in scoring, until the 9:22 mark when Laura Lokitis (Norton, Mass.) put down a three-pointer that extended the Eagles lead to 26 points, their largest lead of the game. It also marked the 66th straight game in which BC has hit at least one three-pointer.
The Terrier's 6-0 run at 4:41 would bring BU within 17 points, but freshmen Corey Rusin (Wilmington, Vt.) and Brittanny Johnson (Chicago, Ill.) each tallied points to bring the lead back up to 19.
Queenan (17 points), Parham (15 points) and Ress (12 points) all scored in double digits while Queenan's 15 rebounds is a career high. Ress went a perfect 5-5 from the field, extending her streak to 19-19 in three consecutive games.
The Eagles' 47 rebounds marked the fifth straight game in which Boston College collected 45 or more rebounds. Sarah Marshall (Falmouth, Maine) had a season-high six rebounds, and led the team in assists with seven.
