Hamden, Conn. - The women's basketball team defeated Quinnipiac, 74-44, at the Bobcat's Burt Kahn Court on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 8-2 on the season, while extending their series record over the Bobcats to 3-0. Kathrin Ress (Salorno, Italy) led the Eagles with 18 points, a season-high.
To start the match-up, Ress got Boston College on the board at 1:09 when she made a lay-up off a pass from Brooke Queenan (West Chester, Pa.). The combination of Ress and Sarah Marshall (Falmouth, Maine) put the Eagles on top, 13-2, 4:31 into the game.
Ress' lay-up at 4:20 started a 15-0 run that would extend the Eagles lead to 21-2. Sophia Kyritsis hit a jumper that halted the run and cut the lead to 17 points, however the Eagles would go on another 10-0 run behind back-to-back three-pointers by Kindyll Dorsey (Manchester, N.H.).
Leading into halftime the Eagles took with them a 41-17 lead, and 21 rebounds, 20 of which were defensive. Marshall had nine points, while Ress and Dorsey each put down eight, respectively.
To start off the second half, Quinnipiac's Charmaine Steele hit a three-pointer to make the score 41-20. Dorsey hit two more three-pointers to help extend the Eagles lead, while Ress added another 10 points in the second half. Corey Rusin (Wilmington, Vt.) and Queenan each hit back-to-back jumpers to put the Eagles on top 65-32.
Brittanny Johnson (Chicago, Ill.) sunk the last shot of the game to make the finals score 74-44.
Marshall's nine points was a season-high, while Ress was perfect from the field, 8-8, and 2-3 from the free throw line. Dorsey's six rebounds was a career-high, and for the fourth game in a row and sixth time this season the Eagles brought down over 40 rebounds. They collected 47 rebounds, 13 on offense and 34 defensive.
