
Women's Ice Hockey Earns First National Ranking

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women's ice hockey team is ranked nationally for the first-time ever according to the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll. The Eagles are ranked No. 10 according to the poll after splitting with then No. 5 New Hampshire this weekend. Boston College and New Hampshire are the only two Hockey East teams represented on this poll.
Boston College upset New Hampshire for the first time in 35 meetings this past weekend, beating them on Saturday with a score of 3-2 in overtime. Freshman forward Becky Zavisza scored the gamewinner in overtime against the Wildcats. Zavisza and sophomore Deborah Spillane lead the team with five goals a piece on the season. Spillane leads the team in overall points with 11.
Senior goaltender, Alison Quandt was named Hockey East Player of the Week for her 21 save performance against New Hampshire on Saturday. Spillane earned Hockey East's Player of the Month for October as well as earning Hockey East Player of the Week honors the first week of the season for totaling five points over a two game span. Last week freshman goaltender Johanna Ellison earned Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week for totaling 40 saves against then No. 10 Princeton in a 2-2 draw.
The ninth annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the American Hockey Coaches Association and USA Hockey Magazine, the official publication of USA Hockey.
The Eagles take on No. 8 Dartmouth tonight at 7 p.m. and go on the road against Yale on Nov. 12. The puck drops against the Bulldogs at 1 p.m.
