Volleyball Falls to Virginia

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Eagles fell to a strong University of Virginia team at home, 3-0. The Eagles, which won their second conference match of the year the night before, attempted to rally in the third game of the match but fell just short. The Eagles lost by scores of, 30-26, 30-28 and 30-23.
Co-captain, Allison Anderson had 20 digs for the second night in a row, which was a match-high for the night. The junior libero also had one served ace for the night bringing her total to a team-high of 32 for the season.
Sophomore Kelsey Johnson had a team-high nine kills for the match along with four digs and one block. The sophomore outside hitter now has 235 kills on the season, which leads the team.
Senior co-captain Verena Rost led the team with 20 assists. The senior setter also had 13 digs and one served ace for the match. Rost's freshman counterpart, Brittany Pierpont chipped in 14 assists along with nine digs and two kills for the match.
Junior Dorota Niemczewska had a solid all-around night with six kills, one assist, one served ace, 13 digs and two blocks. Junior Alison Shepp had another strong performance putting down seven kills while adding two digs and two blocks. Shepp had a .300 hitting percentage on the night.
After dropping the first game 30-26, the Eagles battled through the second game and fought back after being down 22-16 to come back within one with the score at game point 29-28. The Cavaliers would eventually take the game and a 2-0 lead on a kill by Lindsay Osco.
The Eagles fought hard in game third to push the match to another game as Anderson served for six straight points as the Eagles rallied to a 23-29 score. The Cavaliers took the next point and the match by a score of 3-0.
The Eagles return to ACC action next weekend with road matches against Wake Forest and Duke.
