Volleyball Blanks Virginia Tech

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Eagles won their second ACC match of the season and broke an eight-game losing streak by blanking Virginia Tech, 3-0. BC started off strong against the Hokies as they took the match by scores of 30-25, 30-19 and 30-28. The Eagles now stand at 7-17 overall and 2-13 in conference action.
Leading the attack was junior Alison Shepp as she totaled 14 kills with a .550 attack percentage. Junior outside hitter Dorota Niemczewska was second in kills and hitting percentage with 11 kills on the night a .375 attack percentage. Sophomore Kelsey Johnson, who leads the team in kills with 236, had 10 kills for the match along with three digs and two blocks.
Senior co-captain Verena Rost and freshman Brittany Pierpont split the setting duties totaling 24 and 18 assists a piece. Pierpont also chipped in two served aces and five digs. Rost had four digs and four kills over the three-game match.
Junior middle blocker Morgan Woodcock and freshman Tori Thompson both had five kills a piece. Woodcock also contributed three digs and six total blocks, bringing her season total to a team-high of 67.
In the first game, with the score 9-8, Allison Anderson served for three straight points and the Eagles never looked back. The Eagles took the game 30-25 from the Hokies.
In game two, the Hokies took a quick 3-0 lead, but BC would come right back. Anderson would serve for seven straight points as the Eagles took a 15-7 lead. BC would lead the rest of the game as they took the game, 30-19.
In the third and final game of the match, the game went back and forth as both teams battled for every point. The Eagles finally took the lead for good at 13-12 and lead by more than two points for the rest of the game. BC would eventually take the game and the match by a score of, 30-28.
The Eagles look to continue their winning ways tomorrow against ACC opponent Virginia. Virginia dropped a tough match to a strong Maryland team on Friday, 3-1. The Eagles host the Cavaliers on Nov. 5 in Power Gym at 7 p.m.
