Greensboro, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the recipients of its postseason volleyball awards today. Selected by the conference's 12 head coaches, a total of 18 players were named as first and second-team All-ACC. Boston College's junior co-captain and libero Allison Anderson has earned 2005 All-ACC first team honors in the team's inaugural season in the league.
"I am extremely excited for Allison, the team and the program itself," head coach Andrea Leonard said. "This really is a credit to the hard work and effort she has put in this year along with all of her teammates supporting her throughout the season. It's a spring board for us to look forward to next year and the goals we've set to accomplish in the future. Allison has made her presence known nationally, between her 57-dig performance last year, her 53 -dig match this year as well as ending the 2005 season on a 30-dig performance in three games. Anytime you have a player of that caliber, it only brings out the best in the rest of her teammates and the future of the program."
Anderson who hails from Moraga, Calif., played in 101 games and 28 total matches this year. She led the Eagles and the ACC with an overall 5.90 digs per game, .50 higher then the next best in the league. Anderson also posted a 6.25 digs per game average in conference play which also led the league. Anderson had a team-high 39 aces on the year and was seventh in the league overall for aces served.
Anderson was placed on the AVCA's 2005 Division I 30-Dig Club four times this season, including a five-game match against Clemson where Anderson had 53 digs. This was a season-high for Anderson and was the second most digs in the nation in 2005. Anderson was four digs short of the NCAA record she set last year of 57 digs, the most in a match since rally scoring was implemented in 2001.
Anderson also tallied 51 kills and 30 assists on the season.
The Eagles finished 9-22 overall this season and 4-18 in conference. BC loses two seniors this year but will return 12 letter winners and six starters for the 2006 season.
