Boston College freshman defenseman Tim Filangieri earned Hockey East Rookie of the Week, in an announcement made Monday by the conference. The Islip Terrace, N.Y. resident scored two goals - the first points of his collegiate career - in the Eagles' 3-0 league win against Merrimack on Saturday.
The award marks the first of Filangieri's career and the second time a Boston College freshman gained Rookie of the Week honors this season. Nathan Gerbe earned the weekly honor on Nov. 14 after he tallied both goals in a 2-1 road win at Vermont. Filangieri has played in all 10 games this season and owns a rating of plus-eight, which ranks third on the team.
The Eagles next host rival Boston University in a two-game series on Friday, Dec. 2. The game, which will be televised by College Sports Television (CSTV), is set for 8 p.m.
