Boston College senior Chris Collins earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors, according to an announcement made Monday by the conference. Collins registered five points on two goals and three assists in two games for the Eagles this week.
After he registered two assists in a 5-3 home loss to Harvard on Tuesday, Collins scored two goals - his league-leading eighth and ninth goals of the season - and contributed one assist for three points in the Eagles' 5-3 win over Northeastern on Saturday. Against the Huskies, the Fairport, N.Y. resident tallied his third shorthanded goal of the season (tops in the nation) in the second period, then the game-winning goal with 3:49 left to play in regulation to snap the 3-3 tie.
Collins leads the team in goals (9) and points (13). He has three multiple-goal games and has tallied at least one point in seven of BC's nine games. Collins is tied for first nationally in goals per game.
Boston College, which is ranked sixth in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll and the USCHO/CSTV Poll released on Monday, hosts conference opponent Merrimack on Saturday, Nov. 26.
